Changing Perspectives. Creating Resilience.

How FM Global helps properties reach higher standards worldwide

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

That well-known saying is attributed to Thomas Reid from his 1786 “Essays on the Intellectual Powers of Man.” Today, businesses span the globe, yet the varying building codes and standards of property locations can yield enormous differences in property loss cost and supply chain business interruption. Perspectives on building regulation need to be more aligned.

FM Global’s International Codes and Standards team works toward improved building codes and standards—region by region. The team’s ongoing efforts to eliminate major inconsistencies and discrepancies in codes and regulations in places around the world are driven by its dynamic collaboration with FM Global’s industry-leading researchers

The International Codes and Standards team’s work continues to raise the property protection bar worldwide to promote global resilience. Find out how they changed perspectives in 2019, including:

  • Developing a national model fire code in Brazil
  • Translating fire- and sprinkler-related FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets into Bahasa Indonesia (the country’s official language) for distribution by the Indonesian Fire & Rescue Foundation across its national fire services network
  • Fulfilling a consulting agreement with India’s National Fire Advisor leading to the opening of a hands-on training center at the National Fire Service College in Nagpur

“These noteworthy achievements illustrate how the tenacity of our team and our strategic partners continues to change perspectives and create resilience,” says FM Global’s Christopher Wieczorek, Ph.D., vice president and manager of International Codes and Standards.
