THE BUSINESS IMPACT OF EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

FM Global talks operational continuity in equipment maintenance white paper

In a 10-page white paper, Equipment Integrity and Loss Prevention, FM Global’s Jose Burgos and Michael Elias describe the critical business impact of equipment maintenance on an organization’s operational continuity. “Maintenance of equipment should be a significant part of loss prevention programs at production facilities,” the paper states. “This maintenance of equipment integrity has a direct impact on two key characteristics of the operational continuity of an asset: reliability and availability.”

Burgos and Elias go on to define reliability and availability, as well as discuss equipment maintenance strategies, philosophies and best practices for company engagement.

Burgos is a senior consultant engineer for FM Global’s Latin America operations. He has worked in the forest products, power generation, mining, and gas and steam turbines industries.

Elias is a staff engineering specialist in FM Global’s engineering standards division (Norwood, Mass., USA). He is a registered Professional Engineer and provides awareness of hazards and mitigation solutions as they develop in the industries FM Global serves.
