Open Source Fire Modeling
In order to develop effective fire protection and suppression capabilities, FM Global has established an extensive research program dedicated to the prediction of fire growth and suppression behavior. Working within the framework of physics-based fire modeling, accurate and robust simulations that combine experimental and numerical efforts in the areas of fire growth, material flammability and fire suppression may be created.
In conjunction with these efforts, FM Global is integrating and developing a number of key physical models relating to fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and combustion into an open source software package, which provides the advantages of a modern object-oriented code structure, multi-physics modeling approaches, advanced meshing techniques and parallel computing.
» FM Global Fire Modeling Workshop
FM Global organized the first Open Source CFD Fire Modeling Workshop in April of 2009. Due to the overwhelming success of the program, additional workshops will be held annually.
» FireFOAM Simulation
FireFOAM is an LES solver based on OpenFOAM®, which is FM Global's selected Open Source CFD Toolbox and platform for fire and explosion modeling applications.
» Open Source CFD Fire Model Repository
To promote extensive cooperation in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Fire Model development, FM Global is releasing the developed models to the entire fire research community.
