Shivan S. Subramaniam

As chairman and chief executive officer, Subramaniam is responsible for strategic and operational direction at FM Global.

Named chairman in 2002, Subramaniam was elected president and CEO in 1999. Prior to that, he was chairman and CEO at Allendale Insurance, a predecessor company of FM Global. Elected president of Allendale in 1992, he held a number of senior-level positions in finance and management after joining the company in 1974.

Subramaniam received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, India, and has since earned two master's degrees—one in operations research from Polytechnic Institute of New York University, N.Y., USA, and another in management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass., USA. He also holds an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration from Bryant University, Smithfield, R.I., and an Honorary Doctor of Business from the University of Rhode Island.

In addition to his role at FM Global, Mr. Subramaniam holds seats on the board of directors for Citizen’s Financial Group and Lifespan Corporation, and is a member of the board of trustees of Bryant University, Smithfield, R.I.

Jonathan W. Hall
Executive Vice President

Jonathan W. Hall is executive vice president with FM Global responsible for various divisions within the organization including underwriting and reinsurance, claims and enterprise learning, marketing, engineering and research, information services and Affiliated FM, a member company of the FM Global Group. Hall is based in the FM Global corporate offices in Johnston, R.I., USA.

Hall has dedicated more than 30 years to serving FM Global. Appointed to his current position in 2009, he is a recognized expert in high hazard risk industries including power generation and forest products. Prior to his current role, he was formerly senior vice president, underwriting and reinsurance and, before that, senior vice president, manager, Eastern division. During the merger that formed FM Global in 1999, he was senior vice president of merger integration.

Hall holds a bachelor of science degree in management from Plymouth State College, Plymouth, N.H., USA. He also has completed the Advanced Executive Education Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is a member of the Global Insurance Chief Operations Officer Roundtable (GICOOR) and the Next Generation Leadership Forum.

Thomas A. Lawson
Executive Vice President

Thomas A. Lawson is executive vice president at FM Global. In his role, he is responsible for FM Global’s global insurance operations.

Elected to his current position in 2009, Lawson is a recognized expert in industrial manufacturing risk. For more than 30 years, he has built a career that has included key posts in the forest products industry and the furniture and textile segment of the company’s business. During this time, he has served in a variety of managerial positions, including senior vice president, engineering and research; vice president, operations manager – forest products; field vice president and operations underwriting manager; regional engineering manager; and operations manager.

Lawson, who joined FM Global in 1979, is a graduate of Illinois State University, Normal, Ill., USA, where he received a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
